Introduction
Ebano is a low cost residential development created for the growing region of Conkal, an Meridian suburb to the north of its ring road. Ebano's goal was to create a standard o low cost living, while retaining FORMMs conditions for experiential design.
Role
In collaboration with Sauning Studio, Formm was tasked with developing a concept that could maintain the experience while maintaining the cost per m2 at a low cost standard. The challenge was strategically designing the building to make it affordable while making sure that the design conditions were met.
Highlights
Parametric Double Façade: We designed a parametric monoblock structure that generates a private dynamic space where the staircase used to rest. It provides much needed shade and airflow to the circulation areas.
Local Materials: Materials like chukum were greatly used to provide neutral inviting tones in a local and natural way.
Vegetation: Having nature present was always a top priority, thus it was very important to show this through design making sure to conserve most of the sites trees and allowing each unit to have a direct interaction with nature whether it be just a visual interaction or a physical interaction.
Efficient Design: The design process had to focus on making the most of the limited budget, thus we focused on limiting freestanding areas, and making more efficient openings.
